State Minister for Local Government and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has publicly apologised to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba following a bitter dispute over a video clip that sparked tensions between the two political figures.
In a post on her official X account on September 20, Nameere said the video had been maliciously edited and wrongly associated with Muhoozi.
“My sincere apology to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba regarding a video that unscrupulous people maliciously edited and put your name! I can NEVER attack you my Brother! Heshima,” Nameere wrote.
She accompanied the apology with videos showing the context surrounding the disputed footage.
The controversy began after a shorter video circulated appearing to show Nameere warning Muhoozi against fighting or interfering with National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislators. A longer version subsequently showed that she was addressing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda, rather than Muhoozi.
Muhoozi, who is also PLU chairman, responded by warning that Nameere could be removed from Cabinet if she continued “misbehaving.” On September 16, he gave her seven days to apologise, saying, “If she doesn’t, nothing will save her.”
The situation escalated on September 20 when Muhoozi shortened the deadline, giving Nameere 72 hours to apologise and threatening to remove her from her ministerial position. He also said he could campaign against her in Masaka.
