Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has given Minister of State for Local Government and Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere seven days to apologise to him, warning that failure to do so could have unspecified consequences.
Muhoozi issued the ultimatum early Wednesday, September 16, 2026, through his X account, saying Nameere has exactly seven days to apologise. The deadline falls on September 23.
The latest escalation follows a circulating video clip in which Nameere appears to warn against undermining NRM legislators and says she is not among those who fear Muhoozi.
However, the context of the video has since become a major part of the controversy.
A longer version of the footage reportedly shows that Nameere was addressing Daudi Kabanda, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General, rather than Muhoozi. Reports indicate that the shorter version circulating online left out the section identifying Kabanda as the person she was addressing.
The dispute had already intensified on Tuesday when Muhoozi warned that Nameere could be removed from Cabinet if she was “misbehaving.”
“If Nameere is misbehaving, it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from the Cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” Muhoozi said in a post cited by Ugandan media.
Muhoozi subsequently escalated the matter by demanding an apology and warning that “nothing will save her” if she fails to comply.
The latest clash has attracted significant attention within Uganda’s ruling political establishment, particularly because both Muhoozi and Nameere are prominent figures associated with the NRM and PLU political circles.
Nameere had not publicly responded to the seven-day ultimatum by the time of the latest reports.
The controversy remains centred not only on Muhoozi’s demand for an apology, but also on the circumstances surrounding the video that triggered the latest exchange and whether the footage accurately represented the minister’s intended target.
