The Government of Uganda has signed a Shs232 billion contract with Egypt’s SAMCO National Construction Company Ltd to construct the passenger terminal at Kabalega International Airport in Hoima District.
The project is expected to be completed within eight months as Uganda steps up preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
During the contract signing, Minister of Works and Transport Fred Byamukama challenged the contractor to meet the agreed deadline, maintain high construction standards and avoid corruption.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations to ensure the project is completed smoothly and on schedule.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Uganda, Sherif Mohamed Abdellattif Elgammal, commended Uganda for what he described as a transparent, merit-based procurement process.
The ambassador also expressed confidence in SAMCO’s ability to deliver the project.
The passenger terminal is expected to improve the airport’s capacity to handle travellers as Uganda invests in aviation infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027.
The contract also highlights ongoing cooperation between Uganda and Egypt in infrastructure development.
