Socialite and businessman Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after being charged with 127 counts of obtaining money by false pretences in connection with an alleged overseas employment scam.
Asiimwe appeared before the City Hall Court, where the charges were read before Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One Nicholas Aisu. He denied the allegations and was remanded until September 21, 2026, when he is expected to return to court.
According to the prosecution, Asiimwe, who was a director of Sky Pins Tours and Travel Company, allegedly obtained money from job seekers between 2023 and 2025 after promising to secure them employment opportunities abroad.
The alleged job seekers were reportedly promised placements in countries including Canada, Luxembourg, the United States, the Netherlands, Turkey and other destinations.
The charges are contained in seven charge sheets and involve individual complainants who allegedly paid amounts ranging from Shs1 million to Shs10 million. The prosecution told court that investigations into the matter had been completed and requested that a hearing date be set.
The case is the latest development in a wider investigation that began after complaints were made against the recruitment company. Earlier police reports indicated that hundreds of alleged victims had recorded statements, with some claiming they had paid millions of shillings after being promised jobs abroad.
Don Chris was arrested in Zana, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, on August 27, 2026.
The court case is expected to continue when Asiimwe returns to City Hall Court later this month. As with all criminal proceedings, the charges against him remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
