The General Court Martial in Makindye has convicted Hamza Lyavala and Adiil Walusansa over their alleged roles in the 2025 bomb attacks in Munyonyo and Kalerwe that claimed the lives of boda boda rider Sumayiya Baruhanga and another victim identified as Sawiya.

The two reportedly pleaded guilty to murder, admitting that they provided security agencies with what they described as intelligence while allegedly participating in the transportation and planting of the explosives.

Lyavala and Walusansa have been described in reports as former state informers, while other accounts have linked them to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

However, Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga, who is jointly charged in the case, has maintained his innocence and denied the allegations against him.

The convictions come amid a wider investigation into alleged staged terror plots involving individuals reportedly linked to Uganda’s intelligence structures.

The broader probe has also been linked to the arrest of Maj Gen James Birungi, although the circumstances surrounding his alleged involvement remain subject to the ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.

The latest convictions add to scrutiny surrounding the 2025 bomb attacks and the alleged roles of individuals connected to security and intelligence operations.
