Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has been installed as a Lay Canon in the Church of Uganda’s Kinkizi Diocese, a hew huge milestone in his continued service to the church and community.
The installation ceremony was held on Sunday and was presided over by Bishop Dan Zoreka, who officially conferred the honour on the veteran politician.
Amama Mbabazi, a founding member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), served as Uganda’s Prime Minister from 2011 to 2014 and currently serves as a senior presidential adviser.
The title of Lay Canon is awarded to distinguished non-ordained members of the church in recognition of their commitment, leadership, and contribution to the growth of the church and society.
Mbabazi’s appointment reflects his long-standing relationship with the Kinkizi community and his involvement in matters of faith and public service.
The recognition adds another chapter to the career of the seasoned politician, highlighting his influence beyond the political space.
