The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially released the roadmap for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election, setting new dare for the polls to choose a new Member of Parliament to replace the late Gen. Moses Ali.

The seat fell vacant following the death of veteran politician and military officer Gen. Moses Ali, who passed away on July 18, 2026, at the age of 87 while receiving medical treatment in Kampala.

Gen. Ali was one of Uganda’s longest-serving political figures and a towering personality in the country’s political and military history.

He served as Second Deputy Prime Minister and represented Adjumani West Constituency for more than a decade, establishing himself as one of the most influential political figures from the West Nile region.

His death has now triggered a fresh electoral contest as political parties and potential candidates prepare to battle for the parliamentary seat he left behind.

With the official roadmap now released, aspiring candidates and political parties are expected to begin mobilising ahead of the September contest.

The by-election is likely to attract significant political attention given Gen. Ali’s long association with the constituency and his stature within Uganda’s political landscape.

Residents of Adjumani West will ultimately have the final say when they head to the polls on September 17, 2026 to elect the next representative.

As the political gears begin turning, all eyes will now be on the candidates who step forward to contest for the seat once occupied by one of Uganda’s most seasoned political veterans.
