Uganda Bombers heavyweight boxer Aziz “Ringo” Abdul, grandson of former Ugandan president Idi Amin, has spoken out after his dramatic disqualification from the quarter-finals of the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Ringo was eliminated from the competition after his quarter-final clash against England’s Damar Thomas ended in controversy during the third round.

The referee issued the Ugandan fighter a second warning for headbutting, triggering an automatic disqualification under the competition rules and handing Thomas the victory.

Speaking after the bout, Ringo expressed disappointment with the officiating, insisting that he felt the decisions had been against him from the opening bell.

“The decision to disqualify me was unfair. All the decisions from the start of the fight were against me,” Ringo said.

The 25-year-old heavyweight arrived in Glasgow with big ambitions, having confidently declared before the tournament that he would win Commonwealth gold and become the “new King of Scotland.”

His statement attracted considerable attention because of its historical connection to remarks associated with his grandfather, Idi Amin.

Ringo had hoped to use the Commonwealth Games to establish his own legacy and help Uganda end its long wait for a boxing gold medal.

However, his medal hopes came to an abrupt end after officials ruled that repeated head contact breached the rules of the contest.

The defeat also brought Uganda’s boxing campaign at the Commonwealth Games to an end, leaving fans debating whether the referee’s decision was justified.

Ringo’s elimination has generated mixed reactions among boxing fans, with some supporting the Ugandan’s claim of unfair officiating while others maintain that the rules were correctly applied.

Despite the disappointment, the young heavyweight now faces the task of regrouping and preparing for his next international assignment.
