The Commander of the UPDF Military Police Brigade, Maj Gen William Bainomugisha, has urged female soldiers to prioritise military education and career development before starting families.
Bainomugisha made the remarks on September 11, 2026, during a two-day seminar for 336 female combatants at the 10 Military Police Brigade Headquarters in Makindye, Kampala.
He advised female soldiers to consider completing at least four years of service before childbearing so they can take advantage of military training and other career opportunities.
The General also warned soldiers who deliberately avoid military courses that they risk being removed from the Military Police department.
“Be ready to exit or do Military Police courses to fit the task credentials,” Bainomugisha said.
He cited successful female generals within the UPDF, saying discipline, hard work and completion of military courses have contributed to their rise through the ranks.
The seminar reviewed the performance of female soldiers and their roles, particularly in VIP protection and prison management, duties that Bainomugisha said require highly trained personnel.
Capt Winfred Sande shared her experience, saying delaying pregnancy during her first four years of service allowed her to concentrate on military education. She said she attended a Political Commissariat course in her first year and later went on study leave fully facilitated by the UPDF.
