Tooro Kingdom has officially confirmed the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, aged 34.
The announcement was made by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, who described the loss as immeasurable to the royal family, the people of Tooro and Uganda.
The Kingdom called upon the Abatooro to remain united, calm and prayerful following the death of the monarch.
King Oyo was born on April 16, 1992, and ascended the Tooro throne on September 12, 1995, at just three years old following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
He went on to become one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs and served as Omukama for 31 years.
Earlier on Thursday, Tooro Kingdom had confirmed that King Oyo was in critical condition and receiving treatment in the United States, following weeks of conflicting reports about his health.
The Kingdom has not officially disclosed the cause of death.
It has, however, assured the public that the continuity of the Tooro crown is guaranteed, with a prince expected to succeed King Oyo. The identity of the heir will be announced later in accordance with Tooro traditions.
Further details regarding the funeral and official mourning arrangements are expected.
