Drama unfolded at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court after a 28-year-old Andrew Nsubuga Sekibaamu Jenkins, was remanded to prison over unlawfully practising law and representing a client in court.
Andrew Nsubuga, a resident of Najjera in Kira Municipality, appeared before Senior Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko and denied two counts of practising as an advocate without the required legal qualifications.
Prosecution alleges that between February and December 2025, Jenkins unlawfully represented Nagadya Linda in High Court Land Division Civil Suit No. 188 of 2024 despite allegedly not being a qualified advocate.
The State claims his actions amounted to unlawful practice of law, contrary to provisions of Uganda’s Advocates Act, Cap. 295, which restricts legal representation to persons with the required qualifications and authority to practise.
Following his plea, the court ordered Jenkins to be remanded to prison as the case proceeds.
The allegations have drawn attention to the enforcement of regulations governing Uganda’s legal profession, with authorities warning against unqualified individuals appearing in court or offering legal services without the necessary credentials.

Jenkins remains presumed innocent unless and until the allegations against him are proved in court.
