Newly confirmed Omukama of Tooro Kingdom, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has reportedly shut down all his personal social media accounts as preparations for his new reign continue amid an ongoing succession dispute within the royal family.
In an official letter dated September 15, 2026, the new Omukama announced the immediate termination of his personal social media platforms, effectively ending his direct communication with the public through those accounts.
The King also appointed Nyakaana Paul Businge Akiiki as his interim Personal Private Secretary (PPS) and official spokesperson.
The appointment places Nyakaana in charge of official communication and public statements on behalf of the new Tooro leadership.
The move comes weeks after the death of former Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on August 27, 2026.
Following Oyo’s death, the Babiito royal clan and Tooro Supreme Council confirmed Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as his successor. His coronation has reportedly been scheduled for September 29, 2026.
However, the succession process has been accompanied by disagreements involving members of the late king’s family, with questions continuing over the legitimacy of Edward’s selection.
With Edward now withdrawing from personal social media, official communication surrounding his reign is expected to increasingly come through the newly appointed PPS and spokesperson.
The development marks another step in the transition to the new Tooro leadership as the kingdom prepares for the September 29 coronation.
