Nkumba University has appointed businessman, politician, and alumnus Abraham Luzzi as its Honorary Ambassador in a move aimed at strengthening alumni engagement, expanding strategic partnerships, and elevating the institution’s profile both locally and internationally.
The appointment is part of the university’s broader strategy to reconnect with distinguished alumni whose achievements continue to inspire students while opening new opportunities for mentorship, innovation, and institutional growth.
Speaking during the announcement, Vice Chancellor Prof. Jude Lubega described Luzi as one of Nkumba University’s most accomplished graduates, saying his success in Uganda’s industrial and agricultural sectors makes him an ideal ambassador for the institution.
“Abraham stood out as one of our alumni making remarkable strides in Uganda’s industrial sector. We wanted someone who would inspire both our current and prospective students,” Prof. Lubega said.
He added that Luzi’s extensive business experience, leadership skills, and professional networks would play a vital role in supporting the university’s development agenda.
“He was our student, and it is time for us to harness the experience, knowledge, and networks he has built after university. We are confident he will serve as a worthy example and make a meaningful contribution to the Nkumba University community,” he added.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the appointment aligns with the university’s vision of building stronger relationships with alumni while creating practical opportunities that bridge academia and industry.

Accepting the appointment, Abraham Luzi described the recognition as a deeply personal milestone, saying Nkumba University laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.
“This is home. I have been here before and even served as Chairperson of Baganda Nkooba za Mbogo. I am delighted to return and become part of the institution that shaped my business acumen,” Luzi said.
The businessman also revealed plans to explore a partnership between his agro-processing company, Ssebo Foods, and Nkumba University to create practical learning opportunities for students.
“This will not stop at the ambassadorial role. I am considering pursuing an affiliation between Ssebo Foods and Nkumba University so that together we can train the next generation of agricultural professionals and create more opportunities for practical learning,” he said.
Abraham Luzi is the founder and proprietor of Ssebo Foods, one of Uganda’s leading agro-processing companies. Over the years, he has built a reputation in agribusiness, manufacturing, and value addition while contributing to food security, job creation, and agricultural commercialization.
