Fresh speculation is swirling around the possible return of NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor, with reports suggesting the media outlets could resume operations within the next two weeks under a different editorial direction.

According to circulating reports, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) could make an announcement regarding the outlets as early as Monday. However, no official communication has been issued by either the UCC or the Nation Media Group to confirm the claims.

Unverified reports further allege that the developments followed a meeting between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the proprietor of the media group on Sunday. The same reports claim the outlets could return with a more government-friendly editorial approach, which some commentators have described as operating in an “UBC Lite” model.

There are also reports indicating that some editors, producers, and other senior newsroom staff have been meeting with security officials as part of an alleged process to align newsroom operations with the reported editorial direction. These claims have not been independently verified.

Neither Nation Media Group, NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, nor the Uganda Communications Commission has publicly confirmed the reported developments.

If the reports prove accurate, the move would mark a significant development in Uganda’s media landscape and could reshape the country’s news environment ahead of key political events.

Our Patrol Officers will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as official information becomes available.
