Police have arrested Vincent Nsamba, 41, whom Kampala Metropolitan Police have identified as the prime suspect in the death of legendary Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest, saying Nsamba was apprehended in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana Division, Wakiso District, following investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
In a statement shared on X, Kawala said the arrest marks a significant development in the murder investigation, with detectives continuing to establish what happened and identify everyone who may have been involved.
“The prime suspect in connection with the murder of Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses has been arrested,” Kawala stated.
She identified the suspect as Nsamba Vincent, 41, and said he was arrested in Nansana after police investigations into the musician’s death.
The arrest comes hours after Matovu died following an early-morning confrontation in Kibuli, Kampala. Police had earlier arrested a woman who was with the veteran musician shortly before the incident and said she was assisting detectives with the investigation.
Police have previously said preliminary information pointed to a physical altercation, but cautioned that the exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation and Matovu’s subsequent death had not yet been fully established.
With Nsamba now in custody, detectives are expected to question him as investigations continue into the events that led to the death of the Afrigo Band icon.
Kawala said police remain committed to establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident and bringing those responsible to justice.
The arrest marks a major development in a case that has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s music industry following the death of one of the country’s most celebrated veteran musicians.
