A tragic road accident occurred in Mukono District on Friday morning after a passenger train collided with a school bus carrying students from Mwebaze High School.
The crash happened at the Namumira railway crossing in Namumira–Bukasa Village, Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county along the Katosi Road at around 6:00 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.
According to preliminary reports, the Friendship Company bus was transporting more than 70 students on an educational trip to Jinja District when it was struck by the train while attempting to cross the railway line.
The collision claimed the life of one female passenger at the scene. Some reports identified the deceased as a teacher, although authorities had not officially confirmed her identity at the time of publication.
Several students and other occupants of the bus sustained injuries and were rushed to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities for treatment.

According to preliminary findings from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda Railways Corporation, the bus driver allegedly ignored warnings from a railway police officer and failed to stop at the level crossing before attempting to cross the tracks.
However, authorities have emphasized that investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the incident, saying police had secured the scene and that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
The accident has renewed concerns about safety at railway crossings and the importance of observing traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
The driver of the bus is fully responsible for this accident. Why couldn’t he be patient? The train was very very close, no way he could get out before impact 🤦♀️ pic.twitter.com/5w8Vp1zXkP
