The Bugisu Cultural Institution has warned civil servants in Namisindwa and Bududa against allegedly hiring traditional rainmakers to interfere with Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara’s ongoing government monitoring exercise.
In a statement issued by the institution’s spokesperson Steven Masiga Bukuka, cultural leaders urged the public to reject attempts to use traditional practices to trigger heavy rainfall, floods, or landslides aimed at disrupting the minister’s work in the region.
Bukuka commended Minister Balaam for following proper procedures, including visiting the Umukuka and briefing the cultural leadership before beginning his oversight activities.
He alleged that some officials facing accountability concerns were attempting to use cultural beliefs to frustrate investigations and monitoring efforts, calling upon residents to support initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and proper use of public resources.
The cultural institution also praised Minister Balaam for referring suspected cases of misuse of government resources to relevant authorities instead of taking matters outside established legal procedures.
The statement comes amid discussions about the intersection between traditional beliefs and public affairs, as Bugisu cultural leaders continue to support accountability efforts within the region.
