Although news of his passing has been confirmed, the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed by his family or the government.

Days before his death, reports emerged that Gen. Ali had been admitted to Nakasero Hospital after falling ill. At the time, close associate Capt. Mike Mukula confirmed that the veteran leader had been “under the weather” but did not reveal details about his medical condition.

Neither the hospital nor government officials issued any statement explaining the nature of his illness, and no official medical report has been released.

Gen. Ali passed away on July 18, 2026, while still receiving treatment, bringing an end to a distinguished public service career that spanned more than five decades.

His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, colleagues, and members of the public, who have praised his contribution to Uganda’s politics, peacebuilding, and national reconciliation.

Until an official statement is released, it would be inaccurate to attribute his death to any specific illness or medical condition.
