Police have confirmed the arrest of a 16-year-old Senior One student accused of being the main suspect in a violent assault video that has gone viral on social media.
The teenager was reportedly captured punching a fellow student during an incident on September 13 in Nakibinge Zone, Kibuli, Kampala. One of the blows allegedly struck the victim’s neck, causing him to fall to the ground.
The footage sparked public outrage and prompted police to launch an intelligence-led operation to identify those involved.
Kabalagala Division Police have since arrested 12 Senior One students aged between 14 and 17 in connection with the assault.
According to police, the suspects were arrested between September 17 and 18, with the final arrests reportedly conducted at around 2am.
The victim, who is also approximately 16 years old, is currently receiving medical treatment at home.
Police said the 12 suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with the case being handled under juvenile offender procedures.
The incident has renewed concerns about violence among school-going children and the growing practice of recording and sharing assaults on social media.
