A serving Special Forces Command (SFC) Captain, Yonasan Tibenderana, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after being accused of obtaining Shs200,000 from a woman while allegedly promising to help her secure an express National Identity Card.
Tibenderana, 35, appeared before Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Rhoda Acham Ochom on Tuesday and denied the charge.
Prosecution alleges that Tibenderana received the money from Juliet Apio at the NIRA offices in Kololo, Kampala, despite allegedly knowing he could not process the National ID as promised.
His bail application did not proceed after no prosecutor appeared in court to provide an update on investigations.
The magistrate remanded him until September 23, 2026, when the case will return for mention and his bail application may be considered.
Tibenderana was arrested last week and later appeared on NIRA’s controversial “Wall of Shame,” where the authority warned the public against alleged middlemen.
